Pendalogue

About

Pendalogue answers hard economic questions about Canadian regions with public data. Every figure is traceable to the Statistics Canada table it comes from, and every page is checked against that data before it is published. The first analysis asks how tied each Ontario county is to demand from the United States, and how much of that sits on goods the United States now tariffs.

Why counties

Statistics Canada publishes Ontario's exports by industry for the province, and exports for its census metropolitan areas, but not for counties. Counties outside every metropolitan area have no published export figure at all. This site allocates Ontario's exports to all of its counties by the industries their residents work in, checks the allocation where a published figure exists, and says plainly where it cannot be checked. The methods page sets out how, and its limits.

Who writes it

Pendalogue is built by Jeff Ahmadi, a data analyst. The analysis, the checks and the words on every page are his, and he answers for them.

Get in touch

If you plan for an Ontario county, in workforce planning or economic development, and want to talk about your county's figures, or think a figure is wrong, write to jahmadi@pendalogue.ca. A figure questioned by a reader is checked against the data the same day.
